La Gatera de la Villa is a cultural collective, non-profit, completely detached from any political, ideological and religious current. Its members are lovers of free thought and freedom of opinion, with a humanist and democratic orientation of society.
We publish a quarterly free digital magazine on the history and heritage of Madrid, the first of its kind to emerge from the Internet. We are not guided by any other intention than the desire to divulge some of the many and varied aspects that our city and its community have to offer.
We must warn that we are not historians, nor artists, nor writers, but mere amateurs in the literal sense of the expression, since each of us has an academic background and a work activity in no way related to cultural issues, but perhaps that gives us a huge freedom of approach to focus on absolutely varied and disparate topics. However, and if we list some small merit and curricular trajectory that justify to some extent the audacity to create a magazine like La Gatera, we can inform you that as restless cats that we are among us there are members and co-founders of cultural associations such as “Amigos del Foro Cultural de Madrid” or the “Asociación Cultural Barrio La Fuentecilla”, organizers – for friends and acquaintances – of guided tours through the old streets of the most ancient Madrid, former collaborators of magazines such as “Madrid Histórico” or “La Ilustración de Madrid”, writers of books about Madrid, occasional lecturers and there are even those who have appeared on radio and television, always in reference to issues that concern our city.
But we are not alone in this journalistic adventure, because we have had and are fortunate to have a large number of collaborators, who with their articles, papers, research, photographs, illustrations and reviews not only allow us to cover the most diverse aspects, but have made this magazine grow and become a reality. They are also La Gatera de la Villa.
And although our magazine is our main activity, we also carry out other types of activities, such as our blog, the realization of visits and walks and the publication, so far, of three books.
